Accessing the "exact knowledge of nature" through meticulous observations and experiments: This was, is and remains the main aim of the Society of Natural Sciences Zurich (Naturforschende Gesellschaft Zürich (NGZH)).
The NGZH wishes to particularly foster the general public’s understanding in all disciplines of natural sciences, both in fundamental and applied fields. The NGZH thus aims at facilitating the exchange with increasingly more specialised disciplines, as well as, the access to the results of current research. For this purpose, free lectures and excursions with qualified experts are organised. In addition, current research conducted in Zurich is presented in a quarterly journal. In the annual publication (Neujahrsblatt), specialists have the opportunity to present specific topics to a more general public. The NGZH contributes to the promotion of a future generation in the natural sciences by awarding an annual prize for an exceptional high school thesis and by devoting a special annual publication to the youth.

Year founded: 1746
